New frontrunner

A new frontrunner has emerged: we are now thinking of moving to Tainan in July. The reason for this is largely practical: Taitung doesn’t seem to have an oversupply of pleasant places to stay unless one is in a small surfing village, which itself is difficult to manage without a car. Tainan is also quite spread out, but has enough concentrated areas that it seems doable, plus the flats we have found online are much, much nicer.

Today we went back to the cat cafe (not technically a cat cafe, but strongly cat-themed and with resident cats). We found that the two cats, both Persians, had been shaved for the summer leaving them with long scrawny bodies topped and tailed by two balls of fur: an over-sized grumpy face on one end and a pompom on the other. Very undignified, though not as bad as a cat we glimpsed inside an optician’s, which also had fur ruffs at its ankles. A third cat had also been added to the cafe, by name of Fiona. It was unshorn, perhaps because it was new, perhaps because of its mad red eyes.

Anyway, the cafe was pleasant as always, the over-the-top white-and-pink car theming (3D latte art, mugs shaped like paws etc) was amusing as ever, and since it’s not actually a cat cafe, the cats minded their own business and the patrons minded theirs. In the background the cafe’s signature sound track of earnest 80s commercial songs, played on. The mochi-filled waffles were as always very good and the name of the cafe (The Who) remained inexplicable.
